Does Loek work with my school?

How long does the battery last?

Thanks to the e-ink display, the battery lasts about a month on average with normal use. You don't need to charge it daily.

Can my parents also view?

Parents can follow along simply by glancing at the screen when Loek sits in a visible spot, like the living room. There's no separate parent login - the schedule, homework and tests are just there on the display, no grades or attendance.

What happens when my license expires?

A Loek license gives you one year of access to your Somtoday data. At the end of that year you can simply buy another year to extend access - a renewal option is coming to the website so you can do this yourself. The device stays yours; you're only renewing the access to Somtoday.

How do I turn on the device?

Turn on the device using the switch just above the USB-C port. Then follow the on-screen instructions to set up WiFi and connect your device.

How do I connect to WiFi?

On first boot, the device creates a hotspot (e.g. 'Loek-1234'). Connect your phone to this network, select your WiFi network and enter the password.

Can I save multiple WiFi networks?

Yes, you can save up to 6 WiFi networks. Useful if you use the device at home and at school.

How do I add a new WiFi network?

Long-press the refresh button on the home screen to open WiFi settings and add a new network. Existing networks are preserved. The device automatically connects to the strongest available network.

How does the device switch between networks?

The device automatically tries all saved networks (up to 6) and connects to the first available network. When you move between home and school, the device automatically switches to the right network without you having to do anything.

How do I connect my Loek to Somtoday?

After setting up WiFi, the device shows a QR code and a binding code. Option 1 - Scan QR code: Scan the QR code on screen with your phone's camera. You'll be taken to the binding page automatically. Option 2 - Enter code manually: Go to focusmetloek.nl/bind and enter the 6-character code manually. Next, log in with your Somtoday account : first select your school from the list, then use your school's usual login method (e.g. Somtoday password, Microsoft 365, or Google). After logging in, your Loek is immediately linked to your Somtoday account.

What is the binding code?

The binding code is a 6-character alphanumeric code shown on your device screen. It's valid for 24 hours and can also be entered manually at focusmetloek.nl/bind .

My binding code has expired, what now?

Restart the device to generate a new binding code. The old code is no longer valid after 24 hours.

I'm switching schools - how do I re-bind?

Fully reset the device by holding both white buttons (left + right) simultaneously for 5 seconds. The device will restart with the initial setup: WiFi configuration, language selection, and a new QR code/binding code. Then log in with your new school account to complete the new binding.

How does the display work?

The e-ink display only uses power when refreshing the screen. It automatically shows your schedule, homework, and test information and refreshes regularly via WiFi.

How often is the data refreshed?

Loek adjusts the refresh schedule based on the time of day: Morning (6:00–9:00): Every 5 minutes - so your schedule is up to date before you head to school. During the day (9:00–17:00): Every 15 minutes - regular updates without excessive data usage. Evening (17:00–23:00): Every 30 minutes - less frequent, homework and tests are usually already loaded. Night and weekends: Once per hour - minimal usage, as changes are rare. You can always refresh manually by pressing the refresh button.

Do you also show the Messages from Somtoday?

Not at the moment. Loek deliberately shows only your schedule, homework, and tests - the information you can act on at a glance. Messages in Somtoday often need a reply, so they belong in the Somtoday app itself, and this keeps the data we process to a minimum. That said, we're looking into what we could do here - for example a notice that new messages are waiting for you, or perhaps even showing the message content itself. It's not certain yet, but we're exploring it.

What happens without WiFi?

Without WiFi, the last retrieved screen remains visible. No new data is fetched until the connection is restored.

My device can't connect

Check that the WiFi password is correct and that you're close enough to the router. Long-press the refresh button to re-open the WiFi settings.

Can the device use mobile data?

No, the device only works via WiFi. A mobile data connection is not possible.

How is the device updated?

The device automatically checks for updates when connected to WiFi. When an update is available, a notification appears on screen. Confirm to install the update.

Do I need to do anything for an update?

Make sure the device is connected to WiFi and has enough battery (more than 20%). The rest happens automatically.

Can I reinstall the firmware myself?

Yes. Connect your Loek to your computer with a USB-C data cable and open our flash page in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge - it installs the firmware straight from the browser. You normally won't need this: updates arrive automatically over WiFi.

Long-press the refresh button on the WiFi screen. The device will re-open the WiFi configuration.

Hold both white buttons (left + right) simultaneously for 5 seconds on the main screen. The device will erase all settings and restart with the initial setup.

My device keeps rebooting

After 5 repeated reboots, the device enters recovery mode. Press the button to restart. If the problem persists, contact support.

The screen is frozen

Wait 30 seconds - the device has a watchdog timer that automatically restarts it. If that doesn't work, turn the device off and on again using the switch above the USB-C port.

How do I change the language after initial setup?

The language is chosen during initial setup and cannot be changed separately afterwards. To change the language, you need to fully reset the device: hold both white buttons (left + right) simultaneously for 5 seconds. The device will restart with the initial setup, including language selection. Note: you will also need to set up WiFi and the Somtoday binding again.

Yes. You have a 14-day right of withdrawal: email us within 14 days of receipt with your order number, return Loek in its original condition and packaging (return shipping is at your own cost), and you'll get the full purchase amount back within 14 days. As little as possible. For your order: name, email address and delivery address. For the device we receive, via the Somtoday Connect API, only agenda data (schedule, homework, tests) - no student record and no grades.

No. Your child signs in with the school's existing Somtoday account - we don't create a separate account.
