The story behind Loek
How it started
Loek was born out of frustration at the kitchen table. Jelle and Jochem, two fathers, watched their kids struggle in their first year of secondary school. The school discouraged smartphone use - rightly so - but students still needed a phone to check their schedule and homework on Somtoday.
That didn't add up. Why force a child to use a smartphone - with all its distractions - at the very moment they should be settling down to do homework?

So they built their own solution at home: a simple e-ink screen that connects directly to Somtoday and Magister. No apps, no notifications, no distractions. Just a screen on the desk showing the day's schedule, homework, and tests.
Before long, other parents wanted it too. What started as a hobby grew into a serious idea. They approached Som/Topicus and the school to make it scalable. And that's how Loek was born.
What we stand for
We believe kids should have access to their school information without the distractions of a smartphone. Loek gives students focus: all essential school info in one place, without social media, without notifications, without endless scrolling.
Loek isn't against technology. We're for the right technology at the right time. An e-ink display showing your schedule is exactly enough - nothing more, nothing less.
